Poodle Training Is Easy With A Very Eager Breed of Dog
The poodle is just about the cutest dog there is especially with the various styles and ways of grooming these pretty curls. They also have pleasing dispositions with their innate cheerfulness. They are very eager to please, which is why poodle training is one of the easiest things to do.
Though a poodle is naturally upbeat, a good number of them have problems with socialization. A poodle obedience training class is highly recommended so as to avoid future problems with your little bubbly pet. To make it convenient for you and your dog, you could ask a pet trainer to conduct the poodle training right in your home. The trainer could visit your dog for several hours in a week to slowly teach him some manners. As pet owner, you would need to learn the technique so that you can also manage your little pooch. With a good training, your poodle will get along well not only with humans but with other dogs as well.
The basics of poodle training are the common commands of sit, come, stay, down, heel and the like. You could even train your dog to fetch your newspapers or your slippers, that is, if you do not mind the drool or a ripped paper. In essence, you can actually conduct your own poodle training, but if you have no experience working with a dog before, better left the instructions to a professional trainer. It is hassle free and with guaranteed results.
The command ‘sit’ is most likely the first on the list and the easiest to perform. You would notice that your trainer will prepare dog treats, which he will give as reward from time to time. You could try your hand on it by tying your dog to a leash and two feet away from you position your dog facing you. With your treat ready in your hand, lift it above your dog’s head and make a circle directed to its tail.
Once your dog sits down and follows your hand, give the treat and praise your dog really well. Continue this exercise in batches of about 3 to 4 times with a 2 minute break in between, where you can play and praise your dog with his performance. Repetition is important because that is how dogs learn until they get your full message. Make sure you are generous with your health and take advantage of your poodle’s eagerness to please you. By making it fun for your dog, your poodle training will be much easier and a lot more effective.
The command ‘heel’ is a bit more complex, but it is definitely useful. It could even be a lifesaver especially when you are outdoors with several fast cars in the area. A poodle can be very restless, unable to sit still and like to explore. Its curiosity is always insatiable, which is why teaching this particular command should be an important part of your poodle training.
A simple technique is to tie your poodle with a leash and walking in front of it, place your treat in your hand on the same side of where your poodle is. When the dog tries to leap at you, pull slightly on the leash and loudly say heel. Continue with this exercise until the dog stops wrestling with the leash. When you have come to this point, praise your dog and give him his treat. He will be able to associate your praise and treat with his good behaviour of not tugging on the leash. Poodle training requires patience and with the right techniques, you will soon have your reward in a very obedient and easily controlled pet.
